19 Jan 10 Foods Containing Omega 3 Fatty Acids – What You Don’t Know Might Be Costing You More Than You Think

Omega 3 fatty acids are essential for proper functioning and well being of our body. They provide amazing benefits for our overall health. Find out what are the extraordinary foods containing Omega 3 fatty acids in high levels and what precautions you should take to safeguard your health.

Foods containing Omega 3 fatty acids

Omega 6 fatty acids can be found in abundant quantity in many food sources. But, if we look at the list of foods containing Omega 3 fatty acids in a good quantity, we come across only a few names. In fact, fish is the only food that is rich in long chain of omega 3 fatty acids, DHA and EPA.

So, why is it that a comparison is being done on the content of Omega 3 versus Omega 6 in the average diet? The reason is quite simple. The average diet of most people contains excessive amounts of Omega 6 in comparison to Omega 3!

In fact, research shows that the average Western individual consumes around 10 times of Omega 6 as compared to Omega 3 (in many people it is as high as 30 times)! This is a big health hazard and is a precursor to a lot of health problems such as heart disease.

Although the list of foods containing Omega 3 fatty acids is small in number, they also contain good amount of Omega 6 as well. Therefore, health experts generally recommend taking omega 3 supplements. This takes care of their right balance and maintains optimal health and well-being.

If we look at the food sources of short chain Omega 3 fatty acids, plant-based foods such as purslane, Chia, flax seed, rope and lingonberry are the most prominent ones.

Plant-based food sources contain Omega 3 in the form of ALA. Our body has to convert ALA into long chain Omega 3’s – DHA and EPA before it can be used. This conversion process does not take place with equal efficiency for all people, especially with those suffering from sub par health and elderly people.

Meat is a good source of omega 3, but there are many essential criteria that you should look for. It is only grass-fed meat (beef, chicken, sheep, etc.) that contains good levels of omega 3, and not the grain-fed one. The grain fed meat contains little or negligible amount of omega 3 fatty acids.

You can find grass-fed meat in the local farmers market or specific grocery stores – at slightly higher price than grain fed meat. Organic eggs (with high omega 3 content) are also among excellent foods containing Omega 3 fatty acids.

Although fish is the best source of long chain Omega 3 fatty acids, DHA and EPA; consuming it in large quantities exposes us to the risk of mercury contamination. Almost all the ocean waters are polluted with contaminants created by industrial pollution, the fish too contain hazardous toxins such as mercury, lead, PCBs, etc.

In order to mitigate the risk of contamination, while at the same time benefiting from the amazing omega 3 content of naturally found fish; the best approach is to use fish oil supplements that have been molecularly distilled. It is a process in which the toxins and contaminants are separated from the fish oil, and the purified oil is then encapsulated into supplements.

Hoki is a fish that is naturally high in Omega 3, DHA and EPA fatty acids. It is found natively in the cleanest waters of New Zealand (which are regulated and protected by the government of New Zealand). It is used in the best pharmaceutical grade and molecularly distilled fish oil products.

As the natural foods containing Omega 3 fatty acids are very limited in number, it is a much healthier option to include high-quality omega 3 fish oil supplements in your health regimen to reap the amazing benefits of Omega 3s without the risk of toxins and contaminants.

18 Jan 10 Movie History: if you Thought “titanic” Was the Largest Grossing Film in the U. S., Think Again

Copyright © 2007 Ed Bagley

A lot of moviegoers think that “Titanic” is the largest grossing domestic film of all time, primarily because of its huge popularity as well as topping $600+ million in revenue following its release in 1997.

In fact, Titanic was the largest grossing domestic film in actual dollars, with Star Wars a distant second at $460+ million in 1977. Because money not only talks but sings and dances as well in our society, we remain impressed by large amounts of money. Not satisfied with this approach, I looked for a more accurate measure to compare and found it in adjusting for inflation. When adjusted for inflation, the actual moneymaking value of films takes on a new look.

Titanic, while No. 1 in actual dollars generated, is only No. 6 when adjusted for inflation.

The real No. 1 largest grossing domestic film in moviemaking history is none other than “Gone with the Wind”, which grossed $198+ million in 1939 but its inflation-adjusted value in today’s money is $1.329 billion (1,329,000,000+).

Here are the Top 25 moneymaking movies when inflation adjusted:

1) Gone with the Wind – $1.329+ billion (actual gross of $198+ million in 1939).

2) Star Wars – $1.172+ billion ($460+ million in 1977).

3) The Sound of Music – $937+ million ($158+ million 1965).

4) E. T.: The Extra-Terrestrial – $933+ million ($435+million in 1982).

5) The Ten Commandments – $861+ million ($65+ million in 1956).

6) Titanic – $844+ million ($600+ million in 1997).

7) Jaws – $842+ million ($260+ million in 1975).

11) 101 Dalmatians – $657+ million ($144+ million in 1961).

12) The Empire Strikes Back – $646+ million ($290+ million in 1980).

13) Ben-Hur – $644+ million ($74 million in 1959).

14) Return of the Jedi – $618+ million ($309 million in 1983).

15) The Sting – $586+ million ($156 million in 1973).

16) Raiders of the Lost Ark – $579+ million ($242+ million in 1981).

17) Jurassic Park – $567+ million ($357+ million in 1993).

25) Grease – $506+ million ($188+ million in 1978).

Here are 10 more eye-poppers among the Top 100 grossing films when inflation adjusted:

44) Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest – $423+ million ($423+ million in 2006).

46) Blazing Saddles – $416 million ($119+ million in 1974).

88) Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl – $333+ million ($305+ million in 2003).

96) Sergeant York – $316+ million ($16+ million in 1941).

All figures are adjusted to the estimated 2007 average ticket price of $6.58. Some of these films had multiple releases; the release date used reflects the year of initial release.

17 Jan 10 What Will They Think Of Next?

By combining images taken by infrared cameras onboard the Hubble Space Telescope and the Spitzer Space Telescope, scientists created a composite picture of the Milky Way. The high-resolution panorama is the sharpest image produced yet. Because the infrared light could penetrate the dust clouds usually hiding the galaxy’s core, the pictures revealed a new population of massive stars inside it. Because these stars aren’t confined to three well-known clusters of stars in the galaxy’s center, they were either formed in isolation or were pulled from the clusters. This is the kind of discovery that makes scientists starry-eyed.

An engineering scientist who had designed computers for the first NASA rockets brought his work down to earth. He designed a $100 stove to replace the dangerous and inefficient open fires used in villages worldwide. Made of local materials – fired clay for the combustion chamber, poured concrete blocks for the structure and tin for the chimney – this stove requires 70% less wood than open fires, thus saving both labor and deforestation. Although the stove is sold in El Salvador, Guatemala and Mexico, the inventor gave away the design without making a penny. Instead, he’s making a water filtration system to further improve rural life.

BYD (Build Your Dream) is a Chinese car manufacturer that hopes to improve life by having been the first manufacturer to build a mass-produced, plug-in, hybrid car. The F3DM, a $22,000 midsize sedan, has a gasoline engine that kicks in at 37 mph. Until then, it runs completely on electricity. The F3DM produces 160 to 180 horsepower and travels up to 60 miles on a fully charged lithium ion battery before reverting to the gasoline engine. Unlike the Prius, this hybrid can be charged from an ordinary wall socket. The charge takes 9 hours; but if charged at bedtime, you can “Build Your Dreams”.

For 18 months a British inventor built his dream – a biofuel flying car. The “Skycar” is a road-legal, all-terrain, two-passenger buggy with a huge propeller and a flexible fabric wing that folds into the back of the car ready for immediate deployment. When the wing is deployed, the Skycar has a takeoff speed of 45 mph and requires less than 220 yards to be airborne. Although the inventor admits there’s difficulty flying in high winds, there’s a ballistic reserve parachute for emergencies. The Skycar also has headlights in case it’s a fly by night idea.

08 Jan 10 How to Think to Succeed: the Science of Results Oriented Thinking

In the science of results oriented thinking we learn that thinking is the most powerful tool available to you to help you succeed and create your life with. It is the inventor of all ideas, all riches, all wealth and can even turn a Doctors death sentence into a miraculous recovery. Your thinking is attached to your mind and its ability to create heaven or hell. It can unleash the joys and riches of the universe or keep you in the deepest pit of depression and poverty. Your thinking can fill you with joy or eat you up with rage and anger.

In the science of results oriented thinking you learn that your thinking habits were developed in your childhood. You learned to think by watching parents, authority figures and caretakers react and respond in the world. You developed habits of thinking, responding and actioning. In the science of results oriented thinking you learn that these habits are just something you learned not who you are.  Yet, these habits will determine what your life will be like forever unless some fundamental change happens to your thinking. Most of the thinking style we learn growing up is lack thinking, negative or limited thinking habits. There are actually 6 widely used and deadly yet, accepted negative thinking and speaking habits. Becoming aware of the habit you use and learning something new will help you.

Your thinking habits will determine your self-esteem. Your self-esteem will determine what you think you are worthy of and what you think you are capable of achieving. Those self-worth thoughts create the life you believe you can manifest and will produce evidence of your beliefs and level of self-worth thinking, in the form of where you live, your physical health, how much money you make, who you are friends with and how your relationships develop. You will manifest the life that you believe you can manifest. In your mind this validates what you think is true and this continues the cycle. You can be caught in a cycle of self sabotage for the rest of your life if you do not do something different.

Most often, how people move from this self-sabotaging to self-esteem to I’m worthy trap, is by tackling one goal at a time and this shifts the thought habit pattern, upon the successful completion of a goal. The successful completion of a goal, say getting a college degree, buys or gives you more self-worth so that you can change the way you think about yourself. When you change the way you think your life changes, because thinking is a tool, not who you are. You are not the sad, fearful or angry thought you just had, that is merely something you are experiencing because of the thought you just exposed yourself to.

This form of trying to develop enough self-worth so that your thinking supports your best life is slow and in my opinion not healthy or real. If you want to think to win, you must first detach from the self-esteem equals (What I think of myself + my successes + validation from others – my screw ups = what I am worthy of) equation. You must move into neutral which means there is non judgmental being-ness and ability and what you tell your being-ness will either empower or impair your abilities to achieve a desired outcome.

You are born (what ever “worthy” is) because you are born on the planet. You are “worthy” because you are a child of God, the universe, or Great Spirit whatever you want to call it. In my reality “you are worthy” does not even exist. In fact, “you are worthy” is a lack thinking negative thought that helps you continue thinking that you have to have buy or earn a sense of self-esteem or worth in order to succeed or have what you desire.

When we use the science of results oriented thinking we utilize thinking tools in a different form. We utilize self-command to help us begin to unravel the habit of letting our thinking just happen to us and we transition into commanding our thinking. We utilize power thoughts, explorative thoughts and inspired thought to help us become empowered in our hearts, turn on our personal drive and feed our bodies empowering chemicals that helps us release the genius within us. We tap into the field of possibilities with the miracle thinking which helps us live our best life.

Learning to think “to be successful,” means learning to think in a different way. It means challenging what you think you know and inviting you to empower yourself because thinking is a tool that provides healthy nutrients, drive and miraculous outcomes to your life. So learn how to think healthy and think to create the life you wish to experience
