12 Jan 10 Vehicle Donation: Just One Way of Making Your Contribution

Over the past few months, charitable institutions have tried their best to encourage the public to make larger donations. The economic downturn has hit charities hard, causing a drop in their funding, and they need . more money than ever before to continue doing their good work. The main focus of charities recently has been vehicle donation. Major charitable institutions like The American Red Cross and the Goodwill Industries have found out that their income has suddenly increased because of more individuals contributing big donations like vehicle donation instead of smaller cash donations With this in mind, these charities are now trying to increase awareness of the benefits that come with an auto donation.

Today, charitable institutions are looking at the bigger picture. They are sending out the message that you don’t have to just donate a car to make a difference. Charitable institutions accept all sorts of large donations. They are very capable of flipping those large items, getting the funds they need. Like others, I might think twice before donating my car, but there are numerous other items, slightly less valuable, in and around my home, which I would be hapy to donate to a charity. Many people feel the same and charities would like to capitalize on this.

These charities are mostly looking for motorboats, motors, trailers and other such things as donation. Their reasons for accepting such items as these are numerous. The charities can themselves go about selling the items and sometimes get more value from their sale than you would. There is also an advantage for those making the donation. Donating a boat, trailer or a similar item will entitle you to the same kind of tax exemption that you would recieve by donating a car or truck. The rules governing tax exemption are the same. You must record the details of the donation on your tax form, along with the value of the car.

All in all this is a win-win senario for you as well as the charities. Charitable institutions with the help of your donation will be able to continue their good work and you can enjoy a small tax exemption by getting rid of an item that you did not need in the first place.

12 Jan 10 Learn How The Lemon Law Protects Your Vehicle

Lemon laws are the best and most supportive laws that are specially made to give the right assistance to consumers experiencing frequent trouble with their motor vehicles. Though lemon law is quite common in all states, they differ in parameters from one to another. Though they differ, the end results will simply be the same, as this enables the consumer to get back full reimbursement or even make the change of replacing the lemon with a new vehicle.

If you decide to use the complete benefits of lemon laws, then you must have reports showing the faults and defects in the first one or two years of ownership. Or, you must make the report, while your vehicle has traveled less than 15,000 – 18,000 miles. Ensure that the vehicle that is in question is only registered for personal usage only. Generally, vehicles that come in this lemon law are new and fresh, whereas quite a few states grant and permit second-hand or leased vehicles unless they get registered there. When considering some states such as California, lemon law supports motorcycle, motor homes, and boats.

Without any due process, it is hard and impossible for anyone to claim lemon law for their car. Did you give any chance to the manufacturer for repairing your vehicle? It actually signifies the time and couple of chances given to the manufacturer. In case you still find the defects remaining as such, did you post a hand written notification to the manufacturer for the final chance to overhaul it? While sending a written notice to the manufacturer, make sure to mail it through a reputed mailing service and also get a confirmation receipt. If you missed getting the receipt, they might keep arguing that they have not received the notice.

If the manufacturer is bothered and remains still without responding within the first ten days of business, then it is suggested to claim a refund. If the automaker refuses to agree to a refund, then you can file a case raising the dispute under lemon law. This case filing could be made by the Division of Consumer Affairs or even in the Court. The case will be arbitration, as the individual reviewing the filed case is not a referee, but they might be closely familiar in dealing with lemon law.

If you are looking ahead to hire an expert lawyer, ensure that they are proficient in lemon law and handling. Consultation will be the best course if you visit the lawyer for the first time. While the judgment turns positive and when the case successfully wins, then the auto manufacturer will be ordered to settle all the legal consultation fees for you. When you bring lemon laws to court, there are chances to win or even to loose.

If everything goes fair, then you have better chances to either get refunded and moreover you will also get the reimbursement for all the charges that you spared during the deal. Finally, you might also be given a chance to acquire a replacement of a new car. All you need is to ensure that you are absolutely sure about the offering granted by them.

It is not certain that every vehicle could be kept and protected safe under lemon law. Most of the vehicles that are covered under Lemon law will include motorcycles having engine replacement less than about 750 cubic cm, motor homes, vehicles and trucks will overall weight of 19.000 lbs.

If you purchased a new or used car and you think it’s a dud check out news and articles about lemon law. Don’t get stuck with that defective car, put the lemon law into action.

12 Jan 10 Vehicle Donation: The Future of Charity Donation

Of late, there has been lot of concern as to the future of charitable institutions. The economic recession has hit a whole lot of people and charitable institutions are no exception. They are now finding it hard to convince people to donate in this harsh economic climate. Major charities such as Goodwill Industries and The Red Cross are now engaged in campaigns to boost their income from vehicle donations. Fortunately, they will not have to look too far. After all, there are still many people out there who have a desire to help others, recession or no recession.

In the recent past charitable institutions have emphasized the benefits of auto donation. Charities convinced people to donate cars to them by informing them of the rewards. As a reward for their donation people would be entitled to claim certain tax benefits, often using often based on the inflated values listed in the Kelly Blue Book. This was beneficial for both the charities and the person donating the used car. Charities would get money from the sale and the donor would be able to write off much more money than he would ever get for his car had he sold it himself. Unfortunately, the laws surrounding vehicle donations have been changed slightly, making it more difficult to claim a tax break by donating your car. But the good news is that, although the rules have changed, you can still receive a tax break, it will just mean a little more paperwork. This means that there are still advantages to car donation and charities remain optimistic.

Because of the new car donation laws, charitable organizations are altering the way they receive car donations. They are now asking people to donate much older cars. The principal behind this is that people are more willing to donate a car that is of less value. The charities hope to receive a higher number of these less valuable cars and thus continue to make money through their resale. The best thing about this new initiative is that the new government guidelines have imposed a minimum limit on the amount of tax you are entitled to claim back in reward for donating your car to charity. This means that you can now claim a minimum $500, even if your car is an old banger. This means that you could receive more than the car’s value in tax returns but without the hassle of selling it.

12 Jan 10 Vehicle Donations Make Big Impact on Charities

Vehicle donations are increasingly becoming a major part of how charitable organizations are able to raise funds for their work. While the activities of NGOs across the United States still focus on conventional fundraising approaches, like soliciting pledges for money and starting up income-generating projects, there are other groups that have managed to tap car donations successfully.

One key reason why donating a vehicle is able to help charities in a major way is simply by the sheer size of the income generated at any one time. Whereas several people donating across a period of three weeks can make a sizeable sum, a single car donation will be able to raise that much money, and possibly more, in one fell swoop.

The money raised in such a short span of time from vehicle donations can have an immediate impact on helping certain charities. Instead of waiting for days or weeks to raise a certain amount by cash donations, a car donation can bring any necessary funds quickly. The money can then be used to invest in the tools that are essential to doing their work right away. It can even be placed into other activities and assets that can generate even more money for the NGO firm.

The business of receiving and processing a car donation may be relatively quick, but it can be made even quicker with the right people helping it along. Several companies have made it their purpose to aid charities in soliciting car donations, as well as to help facilitate the auctions and purchases that generate the funding. On top of that, these companies will also sort out questions regarding tax exemptions for donors for their generous vehicle donations.

12 Jan 10 Verifying the Authenticity of a Supposedly Authorized Vehicle Donation Center

Giving your vehicle to a vehicle donation center is a gesture of good will and generosity that helps the charity of your choice to make a difference in the life of people and families in need. A car donation center usually does business through a ‘middle’ agent between you (the donor) and the charity you wish to help (the recipient of your donation). Car Donations are quick and easily handled utilizing charity vehicle donation programs. You can donate cars, trucks, vans, boats, planes, even lots and real estate.

When one has a car that is a good candidate for automotive donation, there are very often time constraints that don’t allow for a great deal of shopping around for the most needy individuals in the community, much less, repairing and making that vehicle a useful donation. An authorized vehicle donation center, that is recognized by charitable organizations and the IRS, will be able to take care of your vehicle, find the best and most effective use for the vehicle and give you a verifiable receipt for your tax forms.

But, how do you know your vehicle is being used for the charitable purposes the supposedly authorized vehicle donation center claims to support? There are several signs, especially when you’re looking online for such a service or responding to solicitation, that you’re dealing with a non-authorized vehicle donation center.

A quick check with just a few, even as little as one or two of the charitable organizations (preferably ones you’ve heard of before), should yield an acknowledgement of the authorized vehicle donation center’s association as a qualified agent of that charity. Any legitimately authorized vehicle donation center will be able to provide you with a list of charities it brokers deals for.

Though very few authorized vehicle donation centers are registered with the IRS as a 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization, the charity you donate to must be. Without this badge of approval from the tax authorities, you’ll not be allowed to legally take the deduction. Even worse, this can set you up for an audit and no one wants to mess with that kind of attention. A truly legitimate authorized vehicle donation center will be able to provide you with their tax ID number so you may confirm it on the IRS website.

Several states additionally certify authorized vehicle donation centers on their own. If your state is one of these, you can easily check with the state attorney general’s office to see if the donation center you’re considering is listed on the state non-profit rolls. If not, you may not be dealing with an authorized vehicle donation center at all.

Over 95% of transactions that take place at authorized vehicle donation centers, are done as a “for-profit” business venture. The donation center must follow certain rules of conduct with regards to how you may be enticed into vehicle donation. There also exists a register of organizations that are not allowed to do business in the state.

One very important function of an authorized vehicle donation centers is helping you determine a fair donation value for your donated car, truck, boat or RV to be reported to the IRS. This is not the so-called “blue book” value but, instead, its value on the market. Bear in mind, this market may be wholesale rather than retail.

Most often, the value you’ll be given a receipt for is the value the charity ultimately receives for the car. If you don’t receive a receipt suitable for tax purposes right away, that’s o.k., but if you receive no word in a few months, you should start making phone calls to the authorized vehicle donation center’s offices in question. If the car is being repaired before sale, it could take some time. Even though authorized vehicle donation centers very rarely do that, preferring the wholesale and scrap methods.

This is especially true in the case of vehicles that are not currently running. However, there is still money to be made, and most legitimate and authorized vehicle donation centers will be happy to come and haul your old car, truck or boat away for free. You should be suspicious of any supposedly authorized vehicle donation center that would require you to pay for towing services and ask.

If the fair value of your car is less than $250, there is no reason to bother with a form of donation from your chosen charity or a third-party organization such as an authorized vehicle donation center. However, for anything over that amount, you will need a receipt in writing. If you receive more than $5,000 for your vehicle, you will be require to fill out an additional form (Form 8283, section B) to be signed by a representative of the authorized vehicle donation center in question AND an independent appraisal.

Though there are certainly charlatans out there who would take advantage of charitable giving to line their own pockets, the IRS and state governments take this very seriously. The state Attorney General’s office will have a list of known scammers to avoid. Once you know the authorized vehicle donation center you’ve chosen is on the up and up, you can donate with peace of mind.

12 Jan 10 Vehicle Donation – Help yourself and Others

Vehicle donation: What is it and why would anyone considering donating a car or truck?  Well, all of us have been there, at one time or another. An old car just isn’t doing it for us any more. It might be broken down, or have body damage, or we’ve just decided to get a newer car and the dealer didn’t want it in trade. Also, with rising gas prices, more and more people are switching to public transportation. Regardless of the reason, you could find yourself with a big, useless hulk sitting in your driveway.

If you find yourself in this situation, vehicle donation could be a great solution for you. In doing this, you would donate a vehicle to a charity or other non-profit. They will either: fix it and sell it, fix it and use it themselves, or sell it for parts or scrap metal.

Vehicle donation offers a lot of benefits. First of all, you get the unsightly car that you are no longer using out of your hair. Many charities that accept donated vehicles will even come and pick up your car for you! You also can get a deduction on your income tax for the fair market value of the car, if you itemize. Perhaps most importantly, however, you will be converting something that you no longer want or need into a way to help the less fortunate.

Of course, nothing is without its drawbacks, and there are some negatives to consider if you decide to donate a vehicle. First of all, you will have to do some investigation to find a charity in your area that accepts donated cars. Not every charity is able to handle these sorts of donations, so you might find yourself calling several different places before you find someone willing to take your vehicle.

Most charities that accept used vehicles will re-sell them after repairs, so you should focus upon organizations that operate thrift stores or even, in some cases, car lots. There are also non-profits that work with young people, and donated vehicles are used to help the kids learn auto repair and body work.

There are some other factors to take into consideration, as well. You must be careful to make sure that the title is correctly passed to the charity, or you could be liable if the car is later involved in an accident, or if the new owner gets parking tickets or other violations. The exact procedures for doing this vary by state.

Lastly, if you want a tax deduction for your donation, there is a great deal of paperwork that you or your tax professional will need to complete. While it can involve some work and aggravation, if you choose to donate a vehicle, you can enjoy many benefits and transform an eyesore into a helping hand for the less fortunate.
